Wireless AC Remote Power Switch, Test Consoles, Amps, Racks, Power Supplies Etc.This is a useful gadget that I built long ago and got a lot of use from over the years, but no longer need.
For me the most common application was for servicing consoles, especially if the power supplies were in a different room. I just plugged the supplies into this box, plugged the box into the wall, and used the wireless remote to power the console up and down for tests and repairs. I also used it to switch off power amps, racks, and other gear while doing repairs.
The controlling device is a Sears garage door opener, with a 24V buffer relay and a large, heavy duty stepped contactor relay -- NOT a solid state relay. An internal regulated power supply powers the receiver and the buffer relay. The unit is build very safely and ruggedly. Because it has 2 relays, each providing isolation, it's very safe to use. The current rating is 20 amps.
You can also use the box without the wireless remote. The receiver has a large momentary switch, which you can tap with your hand or foot to easily turn something on and off.
The range is 25-50 feet, depending on wall layout, furnishings, etc. I added external antennas to the transmitter and receiver, which added a little range. It's possible to tune the transmitter using a plastic RF alignment tool to tune the adjustable coil in the remote but
please be careful, because VERY slight adjustments have a large effect.
The adjustable coil should never be adjusted more than one tenth (36 degrees) of one turn. I adjusted carefully it at the time of ebay listing. The remote uses a standard 9V battery, replaced at time of ebay listing.
The unit and remote are a little dirty from age and storage, but not bad.
