Description
Offering avintage and super rare 1940's WESTERN ELECTRIC 423A Microphone
. These smaller scale units would most likely been used as a desktop P.A. mic, perhaps in a factory or school. Western Electric was at the forefront in the early production of telephone gear, thus the familiar Bakelite face which looks just like a telephone. These mics even originally employed the same type of element as a telephone, a carbon-based capsule. This one no longer functioned, so a
new dynamic moving coil capsule has been installed
, along with a new 3' cable and 1/4" male phono plug. (No phantom power is needed...this mic can be used with any modern amp.) The original push-to-talk button was failing, so has been bypassed...mic is wired live all the time. The
exterior is in great shape, has been cleaned and physically restored with new paint
. (The support yoke and rear cable strain relief spring are solid brass, as is the mic casing, but was painted black at the factory.)
