Rare Vintage 1967 Sparta Electronics 800C Pro 4 Track Tape Cartridge Player
800 SERIES:
A compact table-top cartridge system of ultra modern design including the most advanced tran-sistorized circuitry. Its convenient size allows a number of units to be clustered in front of, or to each side of the console. The hinged top cover provides immediate access for inspection and cleaning of the transport and tape head com-ponents. SPARTA tape cartridge systems are designed to NAB standards and will accommodate any size tape cartridge within these standards. A new, larger capstan, direct drive motor transport (CH-6B) is used in all models. A new, heavy-cast, "True-Tangent" head mount is exclusive.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION:
The 800C Series offers oulstanding tape cartridge handling with the new, years ahead Sparta CH-5 Tape Cartridge Transport. Many exclusive features are incorporated for ease of operation and extended life. The uncompromising use of quality components, as well as the employment of the latest electronic design with individual assembly techniques provide superior record and playback performance. All specifications meet or exceed professional user standards. The all transistorized circuitry is constructed on individual glass-epoxy circuit board modules that are mounted on one central mounting frame for rapid inspection and quick replacement. The hinged top cover allows immediale accessability for deck adjustments, head cleaning and other routine maintenance. Plug-in tape heads are of the latest premium series, precision lapped, hyperbolic, metal-faced type. Quick and effortless azimuth alignment and vertical positioning of the tape heads is made possible by precision threaded adjustment points of the positive locking head mount. Illuminated start and stop push buttons with replaceable lamps are used with provision for remote start.
Unit powers up. I tested it this way: one of the fuses was missing so I put it in a different one for testing (not included). Plugged it in and nothing. In photo 3 in the red box I activated the switch, and the post just outside of the black box lower left corner started rotating. The spring bar in the black box activates the switch when a tape cartridge is inserted. That switch needs replacing. The play/stop buttons did not light up, maybe bulb replacement? I did no further testing.
Any defects not mentioned but visible in the photo will be considered as described.
