    Description

EMT 156 Dual Limiter/Compressor/Expander Full Recap & Cal, Looks & Sounds Great! This is a very rare model, in excellent condition.
The 156 was EMT's top of the line stereo dynamics processor. the unit utilizes a PWM (pulse width modulation) sidechain section, which results in very precise level control and close matching between the two channels. Functions include Compression, Limiting, and Expansion, with 1.5:1 and 2.5:1 compression ratios. The compression circuit is set up so that when compression takes place, average program level is increased at the same time. This "automatic make-up gain" approach maximizes apparent loudness and keeps output levels consistent during compression.
These are ruggedly built, very sophisticated compressors with an extremely smooth compression characteristic and very effective operation. If you set the unit carefully you can do pretty major compression without really hearing the unit working.
The electronics are very complex, perhaps more than any other dual compressor that was ever released, except for the Fairchild 670. The unit is in excellent condition. We've replaced all the electrolytic capacitors in the unit and it is very closely calibrated. Signal/noise ration and distortion figures are well within spec.
The unit is set up for 115 VAC but can be changed to 230 VAC with an internal selector.
We will include a complete in-house copy (not original issue) of the original owner’s manual . The manual includes some extra material including an AES paper by the esteemed Barry Blesser, which outlines the original design principles behind this unit. The manual include complete schematics and calibration instructions.
The item is large and heavy. It will be carefully packed and shipped in a large double wall carton. For this item, U.S. buyers only please.
