This is a handmade custom setup in a 3M card cage made by Dale Manquen. I think the rack was from the M56 tape recorder, but it could be another one. It's similar to the M23 rack I have for sale, but not the same. It has three modules with panel/controls/card and two other cards, and has a meter unit and lots of rotary and other switches. I don't see any audio transformers or power supply. It has BNCs and other connectors on the back.
This has 3 other card cage slots on the backplane that are all empty, no cards in them. Please note the cards aren't well seated or really held in by anything, and there is a large CTS heat sink on the back with power transistor sockets that don't seem to have the transistors in them. But it may be repurposed and not using them. The aluminum disk face of one of the knobs is missing.
I don't know what this is, no one does, but if I had to guess, based on the pencil writing on one of the panels (see photo), and that it has no XLRs on it, I'd say it was probably some sort of test oscillator.
This was owned by Dale Manquen.

Dale Manquen was an electronic engineer/designer at 3M Mincom tape recorder division in Camarillo, California, and later his company was MANCO. Synhouse has dozens of items from the Dale Manquen estate, mostly NOS 3M PCBs/PCBAs from the 1960s and 1970s, but also three card cages, test jigs, and other items, some of which the function was only known to him. This will be VERY safely packed for shipment. I really, really pack things correctly (here in this 31st year I've been in the international mail order business). This is a heavy item, valuable and delicate. I will pack it well into cardboard and polypropylene strap it.
